Program Sentuhan Kasih Deepavali Petronas at Kampung Wellington / Gotong Royong

Fuuh ! Last 24 November 2012, i was selected to join Petronas event. Actually it's a Program Sentuhan Kasih Deepavali Petronas at Kampung Wellington Perak. I'm  so happy to participated to help the society. Atleast i don't waste my time on weekend.

I reached earlier at Dewan Philharmonik Petronas at 6am. It's still dark in the morning. I'm  the one who reached first. Then few bloggers came and Petronas provide a bus to us instead of the PETRONAS shirt. Im proud to bring out our image with PETRONAS shirt  to helping the community. Thank you Petronas !

Actually this is my first time been to Perak and join the " Program Sentuhan Kasih Deepavali Petronas". It such an amazing experienced. We arrived at 10am at Kampung Wellington. .Anyway , Kampung Wellington is an indian village in Perak. It took 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur to the village. The Kampung Wellington chief M. Paramasivem, 66 welcomed us with a short brief about the Kampung Wellington. More than 90% of the villagers in Kampung Wellington are underprivileged with an average household income of less than RM700 a month. Most of them earn an income by working at the nearby palm estates around their neighbourhood.

Then we as media in team with Petronas started the "Gotong-royong" helping the villager to clean out the village courtyard. Lucky the sunny day is with us and make our works easier ! Spent the day cleaning at the common areas within the village like painting a wall & cleaning the drainage area . 

Meeting with new people in Kampung Wellington is a great moment. They are so friendly and welcoming us with a big smile I managed to talk with one of the villager. Which is she stay in the Kampung Wellington about more than 10 years. She said that she proud and thankful to us for helping them and mixed with them. Atleast an outsider came to visit them ! , as per her told. And she shows us the traditional Indian cake/cookies "Vadei ". Its not easy as you see but it need a skill and the texture of Wadeh must be soft inside and crispy outer. I think its quite similarly with the "cucur udang " .The recipes and texture is different. 

Petronas group corporate affairs division senior general manager Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah, who took part in the gotong-royong, said although Petronas was in the oil and gas industry, the company was still committed to contributing to the socio-economic development of the local population. And  UTP vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Hashim was here too. Performanced by the Indian guys with their own Indian music instrument to welcoming Dato Medan arrival.Then Dato Medan straight away to see the kolam making activity , tried their hand at the Alla Rippu traditional Indian dance by UTP Students and traditional hand-painting at the new Kampung Wellington Hall. Afterwards, he checked his blood pressure with the doctor who came too for support the Petronas Sentuhan Kasih Deepavali program.

After its done , he went to the "Vadei" stall to see how the old lady make her own traditional cake "Vadei" . She taught us and Dato Medan as well about the process. After a bite of Vadei ,Dato Medan helping to painting the wall . We all sweating ! Worth for Kampung Wellington ! Its so great to see a small village like Kampung Wellington which is surrounding by palm trees have a new hall that built for them. New hall with new colour. Painting by Dato Medan . How awesome it is ?? .Even my own home wall, painting by paid worker. LOL

Sweating sweating sweating for Kampung Wellington is a nice moment , worth for myself and Petronas to helping the humble town as Kampung Wellington. But the great moment is , that we can help our catering to serve the villager with the Indian food. Indian food the most favourite is curry ! Yes of course with the curry main course is a must ! 

Song must came with the lyrics , right ?. Same goes to our lunch. Universiti Teknologi Petronas gave us a good Indian dance performance. The villager love the performances and so do i ! It's good to involve and give some entertainment which is related with the Kampung Wellington. Dance inspired kids ! Its like an eye opener and learn so much things on their cultural. The celebration was made merrier by the handing out of aid to 142 impoverished families from the Manjung district under Petronas’ “Sentuhan Harapan” programme and a substance abuse awareness talk by Red Crescent Malaysia and Persatuan Pengasih Malaysia.

The Kampung Wellington chief M. Paramasivem, 66 said, ”The villagers is extremely grateful to Petronas for its kind gesture as we were facing problems with our community hall that was in a bad shape and had a leaky roof.

“Besides the gotong-royong effort, the company also extended a RM80 monthly food aid to 40 hardcore poor families in the village, which will definitely improve their quality of life,” he said.

After all we as a part of Petronas team had so much fun doing this programme to helping out the villager & learning their culture.I still remember with one villager, a guy . He says thankful to us to visiting and helping them by this programme. Its our pleasure ! We'll do a visit someday ! Too bad my camera battery is super low. I cant managed to snap a photo with him. Thank you so much Kampung Wellington for welcomed us.
